This year, NOW Canada and Karis Support Society have been selected by the Tree of Hope to join forces and #RaiseHope for vulnerable women and their children living in our community.
Both of these local non-profits empower women to move from a life of crisis to one of independence and hope. Their work is focussed on supporting women to transition from a life of addiction, abuse, exploitation and mental health challenges to a life in long-term recovery and self-efficiency. In the past year, working together NOW Canada and Karis served 243 women in their recovery and affordable housing programs, this impacted approximately 83 children and babies. NOW Canada was able to offer 4,743 “bed nights” to women staying in the low-barrier shelter and a harm reduction program to 417 clients staying in the shelter. Karis has supported numerous family reunifications, moms and babies staying together through recovery and ultimately supporting women to believe they CAN be amazing mothers despite the barriers and challenges they face.
Both organizations have a sustainable approach in their programming and offer a wide continuum of supports including counseling, safe housing, life skills programs, individualized care and ongoing access to therapy. Women who access supports and programs at Karis and NOW Canada are supported until they are confident enough to transition to independence.
Our organizations are excited to come together for a common goal this year and continue in a collaboration that allows us to serve even more women and children in our community in a sustainable and lasting way.
This year highlights the importance of supporting local. Iit has been a challenging year for many in our community, we saw more vulnerable women, youth and children need our programs than ever before. Thanks to the Tree of Hope, the impact of every dollar donated will be doubled up to $100,000. So if you are planning to give this year, please give local. The donations received through the Tree of Hope will become an invaluable investment, #RaisingHope for vulnerable women and children in our community.
